013: What Would You Risk Failing For?
Executive summary
In this first edition of Native Presents, I have been given permission to share a presentation I gave to members of the Stowmarket Innovation Labs (You can watch it below)
My talk was entitled: “What Would You Risk Failing For?” and its purpose was to encourage listeners to ask themselves the following two questions:
What really matters to you?
Do you feel strongly enough about that thing to pursue it fully and completely - despite the fear involved.
I share an example of a pivotal time in my life where I made a choice to fully pursue a project during my Masters degree at Kent School of Architecture. I did this despite the very real fear (and very real possibility) that I would be failed for it. The project went on to win one of the most prestigious awards available to students of architecture: The Royal Institute of British Architects President’s Medals Serjeant Award 2016.
Special thanks go to Liz Lawson at the Innovation Labs for hosting the session as well as recording, editing and uploading the video for me. You’re amazing Liz!
Enjoy the video and I hope you can take something useful from it.
Thank you,
James
P.s. for new ARU students that have recently signed up to The Natives, I’ll be giving a variation of this talk to you all next week. So, if you don’t want to see the presentation twice, maybe wait until Wednesday…
